A serving might be larger than you expect, at 43 grams. There are also 170 calories per serving, as well as 30 grams of protein. Wrapping things up are the 6 grams of carbs and 2.5 grams of fat. As far as micronutrients go, you have 33% of your recommended daily intake of cholesterol. You will also find 7% of the sodium, 15% of the calcium, and 4% of the iron RDI. This shouldn’t be an issue, as the numbers are well within the normal. However, you do need to check your diet and its restrictions, just to be safe. Aside from whey, which is the first ingredient here, you will also find other things such as cocoa, salt, soy lecithin and both natural and artificial flavors. Now, with that large serving, many people would expect the flavor to be strong. However, regardless of whether you’re mixing it with a cup of milk, or water, it is actually pleasantly mild. You don’t get any overwhelmingly rich or sweet flavor, and you might prefer it with milk. Water might taste a bit too bland. It’s actually a strong contender for the best tasting whey protein powder.

To sum things up, this is the absolute best option you can get today. It’s inexpensive, making it perfect for people who just want to try it. It also works, giving you 30 grams of protein per serving, and the taste is mellow and sweet. Some best tasting protein powder reviews found the strawberry flavor a bit bland, so we’d recommend that you stick to chocolate. That’s what we tried, and we absolutely loved it!

IdealLean review – Low carb protein powder for women

IdealLean is actually a whole line of products by IdealFit. They might be a bit new to the market, but they come with some bold claims. They even have established nutritionists in their team, and they advertise their products as “made for women who want to have a fit body”. Now, as a lady, you should feel absolutely comfortable with any product, as they’re generally unisex. However, as you’ll see in our IdealLean review, the fact that it specifically targets women, makes it their best bet.

You’ll find not only their protein, but also pre-workouts, fat burners, and BCAAs in their list of products. The protein specifically has a lot of nutrients which are vital for women’s recovery, as well as for keeping them fit. When you see that whey protein is a major component here, that’s no surprise. They’ve been in the business for over 10 years, and they do know what they’re doing.

If you opt for the chocolate flavor (and we did – it’s great!), you’ll find that it contains a few things. First of all, you have the whey protein isolate. There are also cocoa, sucralose, as well as a few flavors, both natural and artificial. You will also find the IdealFit Recovery blend here, which helps post workout.

You get a pretty wide variety of choices as far as flavor goes, and you can pick what’s best for you. If all of them taste as good as the chocolate one does, you won’t regret getting them. The price isn’t extremely high, and you get a high quality product. The ingredients are just right, the dosage of protein is just right, and the brand stands behind their claims. Most of the IdealLean reviews also agree. All in all, you can’t really go wrong with it.

Pro Jym Protein – Almost perfect!

Jim Stoppani, a man who has a long tenure in fitness media, and who has a PhD in exercise physiology, is who is behind Jym Protein. The supplement line launched in 2013, and it’s very well known for offering one of the best pre workout options. However, we’re here for a Jym Protein review, so the protein is our main goal for today. Let’s take a look at this Jym supplement, and see whether it lives up to the hype!

Let’s take a look at what you get first. A single scoop gives you 150 calories, and 24 grams of protein. This is plenty, and there are also the 6 grams of carbs, and 4 grams of fat. The supplements science behind it is that It’s meant to be a versatile shake, instead of a nothing-but-protein one. You also get 32% of your RDI of calcium, and 8% of the sodium RDI. Cholesterol is very low, at 15mg, or 5% of your recommended daily intake.

The protein blend is made up of milk protein isolate, whey protein isolate, micellar casein and egg white. The final breakdown of protein is 50% whey, 40% casein, and those last 10% are egg white. Jim Stoppani supplements are pretty transparent about this, and mention this on the tub itself. As far as flavor goes, you have Clean Cream. This is a vegan blend, and it’s made to give a creamy taste to the protein. The ingredients are sunflower oil, brown rice syrup, acacia gum, as well as natural flavors and vitamin E. The chocolate, vanilla and banana flavors all have the Clean Cream.

Great overall option for just about anyone

It is absolutely worth mentioning that the whey isolate will absorb quickly. However, the egg and casein absorb slowly, over a few hours. Therefore, this is a great shake for anytime, and won’t upset your stomach. There won’t be any post workout side effects either, which is absolutely amazing. There aren’t any digestive enzymes, though, because Dr. Stoppani claims that they aren’t worth including.

Even though the product makes use of sunflower lecithin instead of soy lecithin, it mixes great. The taste is the only downside, as you can actually taste the artificial sweetener. It’s better than some competitors, but it could be better.

Related article: Best Rhodiola Rosea Brands

It is effective, and you get a high quality protein nutrition supplement. You can consume it at any time of day, and best of all, the price isn’t much higher than competitive products! The taste leaves a bit to be desired, but the science doesn’t, so it’s actually a pretty good buy.

Beyond Raw ISO Peptide – Great post workout option

As you’ll see in our full Beyond Raw ISO Peptide protein review, this is a great product. However, it is focused on post-workout, rather than being an overall protein supplement. It’s made by GNC, which is a veteran sports nutrition company. The main differentiation is in the name – peptide. Along with proteins, you will find peptides in the protein. Let’s explain.

Related article: Naturade Total Soy Weight Loss Shake Review

Amino acids are actually basic units for both peptides or proteins. Proteins are long chains of amino acids, and peptides are two, or less, amino acids couples. When you ingest protein, your body needs to digest it into smaller units such as amino acids and peptides. However, when the protein is already in a peptide form, it digests much faster. This makes the muscle recovery much more effective.

This specific protein powder is great for two reasons. First, it has ten grams of leucine. This provides insulin release as well, and will make sure there’s sustained muscle growth after a workout. Second, the amino acids transport method is very optimized. This is mainly because of the peptides, but the micellar casein and whey isolate also help. If you were looking for the reason this is a fast, post-workout supplement, this is it. There’s sometimes the discussion of ISO Peptide protein vs whey, but here you get the best of both worlds.

It doesn’t get better than this, if you’re after the best protein low carb powder option

There are four types of protein in the Beyond Raw protein. You’ll find whey protein peptides, whey protein isolate, collagen peptides, and micellar casein. You get a higher-than-usual 30g protein amount per serving. The protein and peptides are combined in a matrix form, for a varied release of amino acids. You have fast release, for immediate muscle growth, and slow release for post workout recovery. As far as sweetener goes, you have acesulfame and sucralose, a fairly popular combination. What you won’t find with many other products is the pear cactus extract, which helps with insulin release.

SEE ALSO: Natural Health Source Website – Health Supplements

The ISO Peptide protein side effects are non-existent, due to the ingredients and compound used. There are only four flavors, mocha, vanilla, cookies and cream and chocolate. They’re all pretty tasty, as many Beyond Raw Protein ISO peptide reviews will confirm, but a greater variety would be nice.

When you consider everything, you get a unique product from a reputable brand. GNC are a well known brand, and have been around for a while now. The inclusion of peptides in their ISO Peptide protein makes for a truly great experience. If you’re after a post-workout recovery protein, you can’t really beat this. However, if you want a normal supplement, there are absolutely better options.

1Up Nutrition – Amazing protein option hampered by taste

Founded by two fitness enthusiasts, 1Up Nutrition has been around for a while now. Their supplements have an energy enhancing formula, and the ingredients are extremely high quality. If you’ve read some 1Up Nutrition reviews online, you undoubtedly know is that they have a reputation as being extremely effective.

Related article: Pure Himalayan Shilajit

Their whey protein, regardless what flavored protein powder you get, has 25g per serving. This is well within the safe daily intake recommendations, but is a bit lower than others on the list. You have 138 calories per serving, which is much less than competitive products. Many users will actually appreciate this. Another difference is that it only contains sucralose in terms of sweeteners. This is less than many others, but this may be what is affecting the taste.

While we’re talking taste, you can choose from a few different flavors. They include coconut ice cream, choco peanut butter, banana caramel, cinnamon French toast and white choco mint. Inside any of them is a fairly decent quality of milk protein. The protein is actually a blend of hydrolyzed whey, and whey concentrate. This helps with the digestive capabilities, and makes it a great meal replacement. It’s packed with glutamine and leucine, as well as other BCAAs which are required for muscle growth.

Related article: Equate Meal Replacement Shake – Flavor Review

When you take everything into consideration, the 1Up nutrition protein powder is pretty great. It has all the nutrients that are required and expected from such a product, and the nutritional values are just right. The price is also great. However, the taste is subpar, and is what breaks the whole experience. Many 1Up nutrition supplement reviews confirm the same, so you might want to give it another thought.

GNC Protein Powder – Good “generic” brand

We spoke about the Beyond Raw protein, and now we have another one by GNC. Besides being a great option for muscle growth, it’s also among the best GNC products for weight loss. Now, if you live in the US, chances are that you know the brand, and you may already be buying your supplements in their stores. But if you’re reading a lot, you might think twice before actually buying something that GNC have made themselves. Let’s see if that holds up.

Related article: Do Pre-Workout Supplements Work?

Kicking things off with the nutrition info, a scoop of the GNC Pro Performance gives you 140 calories. There are 24 grams of proteins, as well as 6 grams of fiber and 2 grams of fat. The cholesterol levels are at 20% of your RDI, but sodium sits at a mere 3%. The first ingredient is, obviously, whey concentrate. This has a bit more fat and carbs when compared to whey isolate, and this is also why a single serving has that much carbs when compared to some other competitors. You will also find cocoa powder, whey isolate, cellulose gum, artificial sweeteners etc. There are all the regular ingredients that you’d expect to find, and there is nothing that should steer you away from it.

Related article: BPI Sports Micronized Creatine Review

It’s worth noting that GNC gets their whey from Glanbia, just like Isopure and Optimum Nutrition. Glanbia are among the largest-scale cheese producers in the US. This should mean that the whey is actually on par with those two brands, which are much more popular in the bodybuilding world.

It’s very cheap, but that doesn’t make it bad

This is where that ‘generic’ comes in. There are many popular brands that have proven track records, and their products cost a pretty penny. GNC actually doesn’t have this much of a track record, and that’s why their products are often much cheaper. However, when you consider that there is actually whey isolate, which does increase the price, it’s one of the cheapest protein powders on the market.

Related article: Stimulant Free Pre-Workout Supplements

Mixability depends on whether you dissolve it in water, or milk. With milk, you may find that it gets a bit grainy in parts, so it’s better if you go with water. This may be the best unflavored protein powder if you’re on a budget. Yes, there are no artificial flavors. However, there are artificial sweeteners, and the resulting flavor is very mild and enjoyable.

To wrap things up, this is actually a great option, especially if you’re on a budget. Sure, it doesn’t come from a screaming premium brand, but that is in no way a negative here. It tastes good, mixes easily, and comes with all the necessary nutrients. It’s the best GNC product to gain muscle fast, as well as lose some weight, depending on your diet and workouts. Sure, it’s not the strongest muscle building supplemen, but it absolutely does the job, and any protein powder reviews will tell you the same.

PEScience Protein review – When whey and casein combine

The PEScience protein is different. Not in a bad way, quite the opposite. Back in the days of Arnold, Serge Nubret and the likes, there was one thing that made a huge difference – milk protein isolate. And with PEScience’s protein powder, that’s back. You have that perfect combination of whey and casein which give results that aren’t only great, but are long-term as well. The PEScience protein nutrition facts tell us that they’ve really nailed the ratio that gives you an edge.

There are 24 grams of protein in it, and you will also find 110 calories. That value is a bit lower than other competitors on the list, which is great. The protein, as mentioned, is a combination of whey and casein, and it’s better than pure whey protein. Now, PEScience with their Select protein claim that milk protein is the “king of proteins”, and not whey.

SEE ALSO: Natural Health Source Website – Health Supplements

There is actually a good reason for that. Instead of just getting as much whey protein as possible, you go with a combination of fast, and slow-acting protein. This combination will actually positively affect both the synthesis, and the breakdown of protein. They also prefer WPC (whey protein concentrate), because it has much more protein, and they opt for WPC-80, which is the most high quality protein, in their PEScience protein. This is why there’s a SINGLE gram of carbohydrates in a dose. One gram per scoop.

It delivers on the claims!

These claims go way back. Back in the Golden Era, bodybuilders supplemented with milk. They weren’t dependent on things like the PES Select Protein, but had to improvise instead. Arnold specifically said that his protein shakes were made of milk, honey and eggs, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Related article: Best BCAA Supplements for Women

The amount of milk protein isolate and WPC-80 will feed your muscles on a daily basis, and it also tastes amazing, regardless of which flavor you go for. The fact that it’s also low in carbohydrates and fats makes it ideal for lean muscle mass, and it’s also a great source of calcium.

When you consider everything, the combination of ingredients is more than satisfactory to make us agree with many PEScience Protein reviews that this is truly a great product. It is absolutely worth your money!

Kaizen Protein – One of the best vegan protein powders

Absolutely among the best protein powders natural ingredients can give, the Kaizen protein is a veggie based protein powder. Even if you aren’t vegan, and are used to regular proteins, you may want to try something new. On the packaging you’ll find all the ‘hype’ words such as “soy free” and “gluten free”, and the container it comes in is bio-degradable. There are two flavors, vanilla and chocolate, and both will give you an amazing Kaizen protein shake!

Related article: How to Boost Your Immune System

The protein ingredients make this a very lean protein powder. A single scoop is a touch above 130 calories, which isn’t a lot. There is a single gram of fat, and ZERO cholesterol. The 5 grams of carbohydrates is a small amount as well, and there are 24 grams of protein. This is a vegan product, so no artificial flavors and sweeteners to destroy the numbers here.

However, this is also a potential downside. The ingredients make the smell … well, not that pleasant. When you open it, you will feel this, and so did everyone who made a Kaizen protein powder review. And it’s not just the smell, the mixability suffers as well. It does claim to be easy to mix, but that isn’t very true. Regardless of what kind of milk you use, chances are it gets stuck to the side of the bottle.

Related article: Best Fitness Tracker For Small Wrists

It’s a good option for many

Sure, we didn’t love it. But we’re used to protein powder that is often synthetically made, instead of this. The whole philosophy behind the Kaizen is different, and so is the resulting flavor. If you’re used to regular protein, you might be thrown off by the smell and taste. But if you’re used to “green” supplements, or are vegan, this will actually be nothing new. So, yes, it is a good buy if you do know what you’re getting into. If not, however, try to look at other alternatives as well.

Isolate Whey Protein – A decent unflavored protein

Muscle Feast, the brand behind this product, was actually made by a father whose son competed in bodybuilding. They have a reputation of using high quality ingredients, and their Isolate Whey protein powder is among their top selling products.

Their Whey Protein Isolate is a very high quality source of protein. You’ll find that many whey protein reviews mention it as the best protein source, and for good reason. It makes use of high-quality protein, that’s easy and fast to digest, and feeds that to the muscles. The speed also means that the body recovers faster.

SEE ALSO: Natural Health Source Website – Health Supplements

Muscle Feast’s Isolate whey protein is, like the name suggests, 100% whey protein isolate. When you’re looking at protein powders, this is a great quality to have. The less sources of protein, the better. This only applies if we’re talking high quality sources, of course. Many people will jump at a product that has ten sources of protein, and that’s a mistake. It’s not the number, it’s the quality of products that matter. It might be a bit disappointing that there aren’t any BCAAs included, so you might need to take them separately.

As far as nutritional information goes, you will find 105 calories in a single serving. This is a pretty low number, and it’s even more impressive when you consider that there is ZERO fat. A single mg of cholesterol and 2g of carbohydrates keep things at bay, and there is 24 grams of protein. You might think that this is actually a low number. However, with the quality of protein used, it is actually more than good.

Related article: BPI Sports – Best BCAA

It holds up pretty well

There are numerous isolate whey protein benefits, and many people even use isolate whey protein for weight loss. It’s completely natural, which is always great to know, and is free of lactose and gluten. Lactose free proteins are actually rare, which is a serious issue for lactose intolerant people. There aren’t any artificial fillers or ingredients either.

The only potential downside is that amount of protein, but it is actually not that low, as we said. It’s also unflavored, which might be a dealbreaker for some. The conclusion here is that if you aren’t looking for the absolutely strongest protein, it’s a good buy.

Equate Whey Protein – Great value

If you’re looking for a value based product that still works good, read on through our full Equate Whey Protein review. Spoiler alert, that value may actually be it’s best characteristic. Made by Equate, this is a dairy based product. You can often find it in Walmart, and you have a choice between chocolate and vanilla flavors. The one we tried is the Equate Whey Protein vanilla one.

The ingredient profile is a bit weird, to be honest. 180 calories per serving isn’t a small number, nor are the 115 mg of cholesterol. There are also 3 g of fat, and 9 g of carbohydrates. All in all, this would make many people wonder if they should even buy it. However, there are 30 grams of protein, as well as 166 mg of calcium. You will also find creatine monohydrate, l-glutamine and taurine in the Equate Whey Protein powder, which are a good addition. The flavor comes from artificial flavors, and there is also soy lecithin for improved mix-ability

.Related article: A Guide To Ashwagandha

However, that soy lecithin doesn’t really do a lot. It doesn’t mix very well with water, and it may need a bit more effort to get it to work with milk. Doing so in a blender is best, because doing it by hand will take a lot of time, and effort. A single serving is actually two scoops, and this is why it’s so troublesome.

Effective and offers good value

Even though the mixing is a bit bad, you will find that it works pretty well. It’s most effective for recovery, and works a bit better than other products that compete at that same price level. If you’re a person who does want their supplements, but is a bit tight on budget, you do need to give it a chance. Sure, it does have its caveats, but overall, its price makes it a good buy.

Arbonne Protein Powder review – The weight loss option

Arbonne have been around since 1987, and they’ve been making both nutritional, and personal care products. Their products are described as scientifically tested, made from botanical ingredients, and naturally inspired. They have an Arbonne Protein Powder, as well as shake mixes and ready-made shakes. In case you think you’ll get bored of the same one, they give you a few protein shake recipes as well. Aside from that, you’ll also find things such as their “30 days to healthy living” and “7 day cleanse”, which promise to help you live a healthier life. But, that’s not what we’re here for.

Their daily boost protein powder ingredients are actually great. You get 50 calories per serving. What’s even more impressive, though, is the fact that there is zero sugar per serving. Fat? A single gram per serving. These are some really good numbers. However, there are only 10 grams of protein. This isn’t a high level by any means. That protein is completely natural, though, and is full of antioxidants, and vegan. The quantity may not be that good, but the quality is actually stunning.

SEE ALSO: Natural Health Source Website – Health Supplements

What this means is that this isn’t the best option if you want to build a lot of muscle mass. 20 grams of protein won’t do that much, you will need more. However, if you’re after weight loss and not muscle gain, it’s a great number. Pair that with the quality you get, and things just get better. The Arbonne weight loss protein actually has a specific purpose, and does it very well.

Good option for weight loss

As you saw above, proteins are either for muscle building or weight loss. Sure, there are products that do both, but there’s a rule of thumb that if it’s good for everything, it’s actually not good for anything. Therefore, products that claim to do one thing, but do it well, are often preferred in this situation. That’s exactly the case with Arbonne. You get a protein that’s great for aiding with health loss. It won’t help you build a lot of mass, but it doesn’t claim to do that either. If that’s what you need, you can’t go wrong with them.

Garden of Life Raw Protein – The cheap organic option

The most important aspect of any supplement are the health and nutrition. That’s the same thing we’ll be questioning with the Garden of Life raw protein as well, checking the ingredients, how much protein it has, where it comes from, as well as any other additions.

Their Raw Protein comes with a fairly low calorie count at only 110 per serving, but the 22 grams of protein aren’t that high either. It’s a good thing that it’s both vegan and organic, but when you consider that it also has artificial flavors, gums and thickeners, it isn’t that great. The flavors are artificial, and it isn’t really clear whether they contain other additives as well. There are also 6 grams of sugar in the Raw Protein and Greens, which is more than you’d expect to see in an unflavored protein. The greatest downside to this list of ingredients is the fact that with these numbers, it’s far from a meal replacement. It’s not a Garden of Life raw meal, it’s much closer to a snack. Even two scoops won’t cut it.

Related article: Steps to Lower Your Cholesterol

At the end of the day, the Garden of Life protein powder isn’t perfect. But on the other hand, which one is? Sure, it has a bit more sugar than recommended, but the calorie count is low, it’s vegan, and it’s organic. All of these things make it a combination that will appeal to many, especially those who don’t mind that downside or two.

Things to keep in mind

So, how do you choose which one? Do you just get what your bench buddy gets? Do you get that one with a shiny label, or the one that’s on sale at the GNC next door? You might think the answers to these questions are simple, but they’re actually pretty serious.

Relative article: Best Muscle Building Supplements

Taking your protein dose at the right time of the day will make a lot of difference in your arms size, or your bench press record. But not all are created equal. The products on the list above are excellent, and your gains depend between you being able to tell the difference between them, and ones that aren’t that good.

Whey is a crucial part of your daily regimen, especially if you’re an active person who works out a lot, or keeps an active lifestyle. It’s one of the richest BCAA sources. BCAAs are important for muscle growth, as well as energy during your workout. It also has protein microfractions that are biologically active, and provide antioxidant benefits, as well as boost your immune function. And the most important one? They stimulate muscle growth and enhance recovery. If you want to find more about the role of BCAAs including best amino acids ratio and when to take BCAA supplements, see this article.

How to choose

If you want to get a truly great product, you’ll need to watch out for a few things. First of all, you’re buying protein. Not fat, and not carbs. They’re easy to get into your diet, and when you’re getting protein, you want as much of it as possible.

Related article: APE Test Booster – Optimizer & Anti-Estrogen

Next, you want to scan the whole label of ingredients. We did mention numbers with quite a few of the products above, and that information is crucial when you want to differentiate between an average, and great product. Check the protein, see where it comes from and what kind of protein is it. Is it whey protein isolate, whey protein concentrate, or whey protein hydrolysate? If the first one on the list is whey protein isolate, you’re good. This is the purest form of protein, and absolutely worth your money.

Last but not least, do the math. Take the grams of protein per serving, and divide it by the size of the serving. This will tell you how much percent protein you have in each serving. For a good product, look for 70% or more.

How the best protein whey isolate affect muscle mass and strength

Building muscle mass and strength is the most popular use of protein supplements. Whey protein is pretty popular when you want to improve your gym performance. It has a few effects, most notable of which are:
• Providing protein and amino acids, which are the building blocks for muscle growth
• It has a lot of Leucine, which stimulates muscle protein synthesis at both genetic and molecular level
• It increases the anabolic hormones release, which stimulate muscle growth
• It’s absorbed very quickly when compared to other types of protein

Related article: Breakfast Essentials Review

When you consume whey protein right before, after, or during a workout, you maximize its effect. However, muscle protein synthesis is commonly maximized after training. A recent review concluded that the most important factor in muscle growth is the daily protein intake.

What you need to know is that unless your diet is lacking in protein, supplementing with it may not have the huge effect you were expecting. If you’re already eating sufficient amounts of protein, you may not see huge results.

Related article: When to take BCAA supplements

If, on the other hand, you do think that your diet is lacking, and you want better results, there are many options to choose from. The best protein powder when cutting isn’t necessarily the best for gaining, as mentioned above. Therefore, below you will find a few suggestions. They are all different from eachother, and they’re all great. Some are better than others, and we’ll do our best to give you a list of options to choose from. Read on.
